That suspect is now in custody. The source of the 2020 Markley fire was arson and the two resulting deaths from that fire are now considered homicides, said Solano County Sheriff Tom Ferrara. Two fire victims were discovered deceased in their homes as a result of that fire. Eighty-two-year-old Douglas Mai, and 64-year-old Leon Bone. The Markley Fire, which sparked August 18, eventually merged with other fires nearby, became part of the LNU Complex Fire. The series of fires burned more than 363,000 acres across five counties: Napa, Sonoma, Lake, Solano and Yolo. FAIRFIELD – The Vacaville man charged with murder in the death of Priscilla Castro in August, has now been charged with murder-arson for reportedly starting the Markley Fire that resulted in two more deaths, Solano County Sheriff Thomas Ferrara said during a press conference held Wednesday afternoon at the Sheriff’s Office.
Victor Serriteno, 29, is scheduled to be arraigned on the new charges in Solano County Superior Court on Friday.
“We believe Serriteno set the fire in an attempt to cover up his crimes,” Ferrara said.
The announcement ends an eight-month investigation by the Sheriff’s Office and the state Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention. A sheriff’s spokesman could not say when investigators started to suspect arson to be the cause of the blaze.
