Suspect shot by KPD officer responding to shots fired call

A suspect was flown to Indianapolis for medical treatment yesterday evening after being shot by a Kokomo Police Department officer who was responding to a shots fired call. Yesterday around 6:36 p.m., Howard County Dispatch received 911 calls from citizens of possible shots fired in the area of Markland Avenue and Goyer Road. Kokomo Police were dispatched to the area to investigate. A seven-year veteran of the Kokomo Police Department arrived in the area seconds after the call was dispatched, according to a release from the Kokomo Police Department. The officer located a male subject standing outside a truck behind the Goodwill Store located at 2258 E. Markland Ave. The subject displayed a handgun. The officer fired shots, injuring the subject.

Arrests Thursday, 7:23 p.m., officers arrested Denishyidun Pearson, 40, Indianapolis, in the 2300 block of East Markland Avenue, on a Boone County warrant and charges of theft, a Level 6 felony, and possession of a scheduled drug, a misdemeanor. Thursday, 8:05 p.m., officers arrested Byron Curry Jr., 29, 400 block of West Morgan Street, in the 1300 block of South Jay Street, on a warrant for pretrial violation. Thursday, 11:50 p.m., officers arrested Mackenzie Nicholson, 18, 800 block of East Hoffer Street, in the 500 block of Bradford Circle, on charges of false informing and property damage crash, both misdemeanors. Thursday, 11:56 p.m., officers arrested Jordan Daniels, 18, unknown address, in the 500 block of Bradford Circle, on charges of false informing, operating without ever obtaining a license and a property damage crash, all misdemeanors.

Galveston man killed in Markland Ave. crash From staff reports Dec 22, 2020 Kokomo police are investigating a crash on Monday that left a 54-year-old Galveston man dead and two others injured. Police responded to the area of Markland Avenue and Washington Street on a report of a two-vehicle collision, according to a release. Investigators determined a 2014 Jeep driven by Kevin Morgan, 54, Galveston, was driving west on Markland Avenue near Buckeye Street. Witnesses reported Morgan moved left of the center line into oncoming eastbound traffic, and collided with a 1997 Dodge truck driven by Roger Slaton, 61, Kokomo. Police said Slaton and his passenger, Annette Slaton, 58, Kokomo, were treated at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. Morgan was transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, where he later died.
