She was transported to a Kalamazoo hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor, a 26-year-old man from Centreville, was not injured.

Deputies with the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at 3:12 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 28, to Lutz Road near Hoshel Road. for a single vehicle accident. The driver was arrested for operating while intoxicated, St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark A. Lillywhite said in a news release. While police were searching the vehicle, the driver slipped free from the handcuffs and crawled through the partition, stealing the patrol vehicle and driving away south on Lutz Road, police said.

She then headed south on Lutz Road but when she reached the intersection of U.S. 12, the driver went off the road and struck a utility pole and several trees.
