Springfield man who allegedly struck two people with gunfire along with a house and vehicle with children present in March 2020 incident to go to trial.
Derrick Hayes of Springfield was found guilty Thursday of first-degree murder in the 2017 shooting of Sheena Malone.
Hayes was also found guilty of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by the jury of eight men and four women.
Hayes, 27, showed no emotion sitting at the defense table as the verdict was read by the clerk.
The jury deliberated just over an hour. Hayes attorney, Mark Wykoff, polled the jury afterwards.
Hayes sentencing was set for April 16.
Malone was shot in the back while she was sitting on a front porch of a residence in the 1900 block of South First Street. She was attending a barbecue at the residence of Sanatra Sullivan.
