One man was killed and another person was severely injured in a shooting in El Sobrante, Contra Costa County sheriff’s officials said Thursday.
The shooting occurred around 8:41 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies were called to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon on the 4500 block of Appian Way. They found two people with gunshot wounds. One, Dejante Kennedy, 25, of Pittsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Police are investigating a suspected murder Friday night in south Houston. Houston Police Department officers are probing the fatal shooting of a man in the 5400 block of Chennault Road near Martin Luther King Boulevard. An altercation preceded the killing, according to police. The name of the victim has not yet been released to the public. Possible suspects have not yet been publicly identified. The investigation is ongoing.

East Bay couple charged with murder in death of newborn son

The Contra Costa County district attorney on Tuesday filed murder charges against a Richmond couple accused of abusing and killing their 5-week old son, authorities said.
Ray Ray Darn, 35, and Marilyn Northington, 28, were charged with murder, assault and child abuse, according to a federal complaint filed by the office of District Attorney Diana Becton. They are being held in the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $1.1 million bail.
