New councillors appointed to council Cabinet in Watford

Peter Taylor had spaces to fill following the recent departures of councillors Iain Sharpe and Karen Collett, who have both stepped down from the council. Councillor Aga Dychton replaces Ms Collett as deputy mayor and will also have town-wide community responsibilities, alongside her role as a ward councillor in Central Watford. Callowland ward councillor Ian Stotesbury, who has stood twice as Watford s Lib Dem parliamentary candidate, joins the Cabinet taking on responsibilities for transport and sustainability, while Meriden councillor Jennifer Pattinson has been given the portfolio of wellbeing.

Calls for pedestrian crossing at busy Watford junction

Pictured in Langley Road, near the junction with St Albans Road, is Nascot county councillor Mark Watkin A campaigner has started a petition calling for safety measures to be introduced for pedestrians in an area of Watford. Graeme Matthews wants a pedestrian crossing to be installed at a busy junction regularly used by schoolchildren, mothers with prams, as well as his own disabled mother. Mr Matthews believes the lack of crossing where Langley Road meets St Albans Road is putting pedestrians at risk and he fears someone could die. Around a week ago, he started a petition to try and get support for his wish to have a crossing installed and nearly 200 people have signed it.
