Rule changes mean Nevada County likely to stay in red tier

Nevada County is now likely to remain in the red tier barring “extenuating circumstances,” thanks to changes to the state’s reopening blueprint announced this week. The new changes reflect the state’s race to get its vaccination rate up and hospitalizations down, rather than the focus on case and positivity rates represented by the blueprint. With the new changes, a county will only move into a more restrictive tier if hospitalizations among vulnerable residents, including those vaccinated, “significantly” increase. Case and test positivity rates must also show a “concerning increase” to move backward, all but guaranteeing counties will stay in their current tiers.

Rep Greene defends going maskless, pushes back against Dem accusations of spreading COVID-19

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene defended her decision to not wear a mask when locked in a secure room with other House members during the Capitol riots and the Georgia Republican pushed back against Democrats who are now blaming her and other maskless GOP members for their recent coronavirus positive tests.

LaMalfa joins effort to stop certification

John Orona | Staff Writer U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa announced plans to join a group of Republican lawmakers in objecting to the certification of the presidential election and calling for an investigation into election integrity. “I will be joining with Senator Ted Cruz and many other members of Congress to challenge the electoral college certification until a Congressional investigation is complete,” LaMalfa said in a Tuesday press release. Congress is scheduled to certify the Electoral College’s vote today. LaMalfa, whose district includes most of Nevada County, said his objections stem from “an endless dripping of reports of mishandled ballots, numbers not adding up and outright violations of the U.S. Constitution’s clear direction for setting election rules.”
