OREGON CITY, Ore. A newly elected Clackamas County commissioner is under fire for racist posts on social media. On Wednesday, the county s district attorney joined leaders in the Muslim community and others calling on Mark Shull to resign. It shouldn t need to be said, but clearly it does: racism, religious intolerance and transphobia have no place in our community and especially among our leadership, said Clackamas County District Attorney John Wentworth.

All five Multnomah County Commissioners are now calling for the resignation of Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull following publication of his social media comments representing Islamophobic, anti-immigrant and transphobic views.
Shull was elected in a close race in November over incumbent Ken Humberston and took office on Jan. 4.
In a statement released Tuesday, Jan. 12, the Multnomah County Board of Commissioners stated that they are appalled to learn of Shull s social media posts that spread hatred, bigotry and lies about immigrants, Muslims, communities of color and other historically marginalized groups, as well as inflammatory disinformation during the September wildfires.

Elected officials from across the Portland metro region are weighing in on statements made by County Commissioner Mark Shull on his personal Facebook account representing racist, transphobic, Islamophobic and anti-immigrant views.
Shull who took office Monday, Jan. 4, and was set to be sworn in Wednesday, Jan. 13 is facing harsh criticism from the sentiments he s espoused online, as well as calls for his resignation. Clackamas County spokesperson Kimberly Dinwiddie said recent threats of violence have led to the decision to cancel the swearing-in ceremony for Shull and newly elected County Board Chair Tootie Smith.

New Clackamas County Commissioner Mark Shull is in the hot seat after a blog created by a local resident highlighted more than a dozen posts he s made to his personal Facebook page espousing anti-immigrant, Islamophobic and transphobic sentiments.
The blog Documenting Mark Shull s Racism was created by Cris Waller, a Jennings Lodge resident and Oregon House District 40 leader for the county s Democratic Party. The website highlights quotes and screenshots of around 20 posts made by Shull during the past two years representing views that Islam and Muslim people are a threat to America, and, on occasion, seemingly calling for violence.
