A closer look at Worcester’s 2020 payroll: 90 of 100 top earners are police officers

Members of the Worcester Police Department represented 90 of the city’s top 100 earners in 2020, according to payroll records.
City Manager Edward Augustus Jr. took home the highest paycheck, making a total of $279,770 in 2020, keeping on trend with payroll records from previous years. Police Chief Steven Sargent received the city’s second-largest salary, taking home $239,130, records indicate.
Aside from police officers, a handful of other employees are among the highest-paid workers, including the city’s assistant city manager, administrators at the Worcester Public Schools, the city solicitor and the late DPW head.

In a country with one of, if not the highest, concentration of 3,000m peaks in the world you would be forgiven for presuming that it must be a dream destination for mountain biking. Certainly from the 1980s up to the year 2000 there were lots of riders out there, but several major typhoons and changing trends in the bike industry saw off-road riding lose its dominance. Now, that might be changing.
In addition, it beggars belief that there is little by way of government support/infrastructure to improve the environment for those who prefer a dirt road. Living in southern Taiwan I have seen what were once popular mountain biking locations become illegal to access by bike, such as Jinsueiying ancient trail (浸水營古道) from Pingtung to Taitung. Limerick drug user was selling cannabis ‘to feed his habit’

JUDGMENT has been reserved in the case of a drug user who was selling cannabis from his home, writes David Hurley.
Mark Roche, 45, of Whitecross Gardens, Moyross has admitted possession of cannabis for the purpose of sale or supply on May 8, 2017.
During a sentencing hearing, Sergeant Damien Kennedy said the drugs were seized when gardai carried out a search after receiving confidential information.
He told Limerick Circuit Court that various quantities of cannabis were found at four different locations including at a green area near Mr Roche’s home.
