Foodbank Lifeline used to provide food provisions to around 100 families per week prior to the pandemic, said Manager Barbara Caruana. But when COVID-19 hit, the charity was inundated with requests for help because many people had lost their jobs and, with children out of school, food consumption was on the increase. In April, just one month after the coronavirus was first identified in Malta, the requests for food had already more than doubled. Since then, Foodbank Lifeline has seen a steady increase in the number of people who turned to them for help.
