Heading into what has turned out to be a severe fire season, the state of Montana set a goal to more than double the amount of forest acres it logs, controlled burns and treats to reduce the risk of wildfire on communities. This year’s target represents a sliver of the acreage managers say is critical to address.

May 14—County Commissioner Mark Peck is stepping down effective June 4 to take a new role with the Lincoln County Port Authority. Libby's representative to the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners, Peck described his decision to resign after about six-and-a-half years "a bittersweet thing." Upon his formal departure from the board, he will assume his new duties as a shared stewardship .

Yet these humble snacks hold a special place in the hearts of many people at the bottom of the South Island, the more southern of New Zealand s two main islands or Deep South, as the region closer to Antarctica than the Equator is sometimes called.
Margaret Peck remembers her first cheese roll. She was a teenager at the beach near Invercargill, almost at the end of the South Island and New Zealand s southernmost city it s also home to the world s southernmost Starbucks and McDonald s outlets.
