Danbury Hires Interim Fire Chief to Lead DFD Written by Taylor O Brien The City of Danbury is pleased to announce the hiring of Kevin Ford as Interim Fire Chief for the City of Danbury. Chief Ford will begin a six-month term with the Danbury Fire Department on Tuesday, January 26. Chief Ford comes to Danbury from the City of Yonkers where he has served for 26 years and rose through the ranks of that department, eventually retiring as Chief of Operations in 2020. Chief Ford carries a Bachelor of Business Administration from Iona College, and is certified in all hazard emergency response. Chief Ford’s management and leadership skills will make an invaluable addition to the DFD, and an ideal candidate for this interim leadership position. The City of Danbury is in the process of hiring a Fire Chief after the departure of Chief Wiedl in July 2020 and Acting Chief Mark Omasta in January 2021. Due to the COVID pandemic, the selection and hiring process for this position h

Danbury FD Acting Chief Mark Omasta Retires After 36 Years

Danbury Fire Department Acting Chief Retires After 36 Years After more then three decades of serving the Danbury community, Danbury s acting Fire Chief Mark Omasta has called it quits. According to a press release from the Fire Department, Mark began his 36 year firefighting career in 1984 with Citizens Hose Company 6 in Wilton. After a year, he returned to Danbury and from then on he has worked as a firefighter, an EMT and as an aircraft rescue firefighter. Danbury Fire Department Facebook Image He was promoted to a Lieutenant in 1999, an EMS training officer in 2007, Assistant Fire Chief in 2014 and took over as acting Fire Chief when Chief Wiedl retired in June of 2020.
