The “Hawk Bowl” was Saturday, with UC Davis, coached by Dan Hawkins, beating Idaho State, coached by Dan's son Cody Hawkins, 21-14 at Holt Arena in Pocatello. This Saturday, the younger “Hawk” brings his ISU team to the Kibbie Dome, trying to continue an alternately promising and challenging season in Pocatello.
“That’s a good football team. (Coeur d'Alene coach Shawn) Amos does a good job. We’ve got a ton of respect for that program,” Rocky Mountain coach Scott Criner said. “They’re going to be a tough out … especially with that quarterback, the way he’s playing right now … they’re good.”
“We let four teams score over 40 points (last year), so everybody made a collective decision this year that we’re not going to let that happen,” Coeur d’Alene senior middle linebacker Shea Robertson said.
“We have a little chip on our shoulder,” said first-year Idaho men's basketball coach Alex Pribble, who was head coach at Division II Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Wash., for four seasons (2015-19). “We understand where this program has been, we understand where this team is projected … but we have a strong sense of internal belief.”
As for the picks, Jason Elliott, Mark Nelke and Josh McDonald each went 2-1 last week. Jason still leads at 56-21 overall, Mark is at 55-22, Josh 52-25.
