Alachua and Baker County jury trials suspended from COVID cases

Jury trials are at a halt once again in Alachua County by the order of the judicial circuit’s chief judge, who cited COVID-19 concerns.  The Eighth Judicial Circuit’s new Chief Judge Mark Moseley suspended all in-person jury trials in Alachua and Baker Counties for the week of Jan. 11 based on local COVID-19 cases and rates in the past few weeks.  The two counties were specified, court officials said, because they are the only ones in the circuit with scheduled jury trials next week. The decision to suspend jury trials is up to the chief judge, who considers local COVID-19 trends, emergency department visits and hospitalizations for coronavirus-like symptoms.
