Former 4th Ward Alderman Evelyn “Evie” Sherman Raden has died after a long illness. She was 82.
The long-time resident of Evanston served as a passionate advocate for many causes before, during and after her two terms as alderman from 1981 to 1989.
Described by her family as a visionary political organizer, she was pivotal in many campaigns at local, state and national levels.
Her time on the City Council coincided with a turn to the right in the White House, and she responded locally to conservative policies at the national level.
