BELLEVILLE, Ill.
Update: Whiteside School Superintendent Mark Heuring said the school board approved mandatory masks in schools by a 7-0 vote.
Back to school is right around the corner and several local districts are still deciding whether masks will be mandatory.
At Whiteside Elementary things are quiet ahead of the start of the semester and Superintendent Mark Heuring hopes to keep it that way.
Belleville News-Democrat Whiteside Middle School in Belleville is part of one school district in Illinois that s been placed on a financial watch list. The designation means the state will monitor the district more closely.

Three of the six Illinois school districts to receive the lowest designation for their state financial profiles this year are in St. Clair County.
