Marines in Afghanistan – in a combat zone – were forced to disarm before entering the tent with Secretary of Defense, Leon Panetta.
Originally, it appeared that someone was afraid the Marines would open fire on Leon.
Major General Mark Gurganus later said he gave the order because Afghan troops attending the talk were unarmed and he wanted the policy to be consistent for all.
Obviously, Leon agreed no matter which was the case.
I’m not sure which is worse. In one case, the Secretary of Defense shows his lack of respect for the Marines and in the second case, he pulls a weak-kneed PC move.
