Hyannis residents sought for study of forever chemicals, information session planned

Silent Spring Institute is holding an informational event at Barnstable Town Hall on Wednesday, November 16 to recruit Hyannis residents for the study. Before 2016, levels of PFAS in the Hyannis water system were higher than in any other public water supply in Massachusetts. The researchers are seeking to enroll people who lived in Hyannis for any amount of time between May 2006 and July 2016.

Commonwealth Wind pursuing electrical cable landing at Dowses Beach in Barnstable

A third offshore wind project is taking steps to land electrical cables in Barnstable. Commonwealth Wind has filed an environmental notification form with the state seeking to land cables at Dowse's Beach in Osterville. The cables would be routed underground to a new substation somewhere in Barnstable. Barnstable Town Manager Mark Ells said negotiating a host-community agreement early in the permitting process would be better for the town.
