Three Sundays River Valley municipal traffic officials, accused of receiving kickbacks for falsifying learner and driver’s licences, appeared in the Gqeberha high court on Tuesday, where the mammoth task of reading the 102-page indictment into the record began.
Four people, including a police officer who allegedly tampered with evidence to weaken the state’s case against three suspects facing drug-related charges, appeared in the Gqeberha magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of corruption.
In what is believed to be one of SA’s biggest succulent smuggling cases to date, a Gqeberha husband and wife scoffed at the chance of a plea bargain which would have seen them pay a fine and a guaranteed get-out-of-jail-free card.
