Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel noted the difference in the building’s architecture to the drab, rudimentary design of the jail’s infamous “D Block” and maximum security facility that have been closed for several years.
The statue of the county’s namesake was commissioned in 1976 as part of a bicentennial project and completed, erected and dedicated in 1977 by sculptor Frank C. Varga.
The challenge will be made more difficult by supply-chain issues, and material and labor shortages. But Jeff Havranek of Granger Construction said company officials will identify tasks to start working on immediately.
Chief Deputy Executive Mark Deldin said the upcoming retirement of Deputy County Executive Vicki Wolber necessitated bringing adding someone with Amboyer’s expertise and experience to help the entities that will execute the project.
