National Party President Peter Goodfellow has emailed party members saying a review into the party s disastrous election campaign found the disunity, leaks and poor behaviour were the key factors in that result.
The email was sent this morning, just after National Party MPs went into their weekly meeting to discuss the review, which the NZ Herald was told was so brutal that some believed even the MPs should not be shown it in full.
But he would only commit to discussing the review with MPs, not releasing it to them. Only the party’s nine-member board would see the full report that had come out of the review. “The full report is for the board,” Goodfellow said. The review was announced in the aftermath of the party’s loss in October and set in motion last November. Goodfellow said that all party members would eventually see something from the review, although the full review would not be circulated to the wider party rank and file. “It’s a good comprehensive report. We’ve got a process for taking it our members,” Goodfellow said.
