Council considers downtown parking
SIDNEY Downtown parking was discussed during the Monday evening hybrid-style Sidney City Council teleconference meeting.
City Manager Mark Cundiff led discussions on extending the downtown parking amnesty program and parking in the downtown in general.
Cundiff recently brought the issue of considering extending the parking amnesty program to council on Feb. 8, but after members expressed concern about the non-enforcement of overnight parking restrictions and several other questions about downtown parking, he sought to review downtown parking and come back with recommendations. City staff’s recommendation Monday and on Feb. 8 is to extend the program until Jan. 1, 2022.
Council hears downtown development strategies
SIDNEY Downtown development strategies were discussed during the Sidney City Council’s Monday evening hybrid-style teleconference meeting.
Amy Breinich, Sidney Alive executive director, Jim Hill, executive director of the Sidney-Shelby Economic Partnership (SSEP), along with Barry Alberts, of CityVisions Associates, provided a presentation on downtown development strategies. Alberts has been working with SSEP and Sidney Alive to help strategize the vision for downtown. CityVisions, of Louisville, Kentucky, is a downtown developer/consultant that has previous worked on the riverfront development strategy in Piqua, Dayton and Springfield.
Hill and Breinich gave an quick review for council members of goals and previous steps. Alberts then shared information on phase I plans for the downtown Sidney development strategic actions community partners are working on.
Council OKs rezoning request

SIDNEY The Sidney City Council approved a rezoning request of a 177.83 acre tract of land from a B-2, community business district and an I-2 light industry district, into five separate and distinct districts during Monday’s teleconference meeting.
Council adopted the rezoning request of Choice One Engineering, on behalf of MSGA Development, for the rezoning of the property north of Russell Road and between Interstate 75 and St. Marys Avenue. The request was to increase the area zoned B-2, community business district, and to rezone the remaining area from I-2, general industrial, to R-3, multi-family residence district, and R-1, single family residence district. The property is currently wooded areas and crop farming, City Manager Mark Cundiff said.
