Just 23 percent of families located in the Gaeltacht are raising their children with Irish, according to an in-depth study of Gaeltacht language planning areas, and now only two areas remain where majority of children continue to speak Irish outside school. Julian de Spáinn General Secretary of Conradh na Gaeilge joined Mark Cagney on the show.

He then spent weeks in hospital recovering - yet just months later was back presenting on Newstalk.
Mark told the Irish Sun on Sunday: “It scared the hell out of me. I had two choices then… I can go on, or I can go under. This could have killed me but it didn’t.
“At my age you wonder how much time do I have left ? A stroke can shatter your self-esteem. You can end up not leaving your house, that’s no way to lead your life.”
