Pueblo police seek man suspected in attempted murder

The Pueblo Police Department is seeking Jason Martinez, 28, on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder in a November shooting that left one person injured. Officers were dispatched at approximately 10:48 p.m. Nov. 25 to the 2100 block of East 14th Street on reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered a victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Martinez is described as a 5-foot-4 Hispanic male with a thin build. Police say he has a history of using weapons and should be considered armed and dangerous. He also reportedly has a “UNLV” tattoo over his right eyebrow. Investigators believe Martinez is in Southern Colorado, possibly with his girlfriend, Marissa Valdez, 21. She’s described as 5-foot-6 and weighing 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. She also has a felony warrant related to identity theft.

Kids, meet Joe Biden and Kamala Harris through these picture books

Susan Faust January 12, 2021Updated: January 26, 2021, 7:06 am Mainstream children’s publishers have mostly shied away from books about the 45th president. Standing almost alone is a highly critical young adult biography from last year, “Unpresidented: A Biography of Donald Trump” by Martha Brockenbrough (Feiwel & Friends and reviewed in September 2019). Yes, there are Trump parodies and coloring books for kids, but editor Jill Santopolo from Philomel, a division of Penguin Random House, sheds some light on the near vacuum of more serious-minded works. “Our goal is to publish books that inspire and empower and teach children about kindness, compassion and inclusivity,” she explained in a recent interview. “Donald Trump didn’t feel like the right subject matter match for our list.”

We would color the skin color in with a brown marker; often we would change pronouns from he, to she, to they. And I saw, you know, firsthand . this idea that you can t be what you can t see. . Now [my daughter] says she wants to be a president and an astronaut when she grows up and that is because she saw a family member running for president. It s because she read a book about [astronaut] Mae Jemison.
