The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) has stopped enforcing a state law that made it illegal for 18- to 20-year-olds to carry handguns in public.
AUSTIN — Felicha Martinez, mother of 10-year-old Uvalde victim Xavier Lopez, said this past holiday that she did not open presents with her children on Christmas morning.
The families are pushing for a series of bills that range from ending qualified immunity to changing age limits to purchase a semi-automatic rifle. The group also wants to be able to sue the state over the botched police response.
One bill would end qualified immunity for police, while another would create a school violence victims’ compensation fund by creating a state tax on bullet sales.
