adam may. one year from now grand prix racing comes to baltimore. but before it does, a lot of roads downtown need a major overhaul. derrek valcourt has the report. reporter: we re going to get slow going on the roads in order to get the roads up to speed for the drivers. one year from now the streets of baltimore will turn into a giant racetrack thanks to a five year agreement to bring racing to the city. drivers will race through the 2.5-mile court which wraps through downtown to camden yards. but before the cars can rev their engines, the roads have to get tuned up. we were going to do that work any way. reporter: city construction crews will plug up potholes and repair streets to the tune of $2 million. then starting next week, those two lanes on pratt will close round the clock until the work is done. we re doing pratt street because pratt street is in need of repair. repairs haven t been done for the last 35 years. we need to look at pratt street to avoid any da
