Cambridge artists awarded $5K to create Art for Racial Justice

Cambridge artists awarded $5K to create art for racial justice Vanessa Bartlett/Correspondent Wicked Local As part of its anti-racism efforts, the city of Cambridge has increased its budget for arts initiatives designed to prioritize funding for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists. Grants for the arts tripled this year due to the reallocation of some city funding for in-person programs. This influx of money allowed Cambridge Arts to “think more flexibly,” according to Kirsten Swartz, the community arts administrator for the Cambridge Arts Council (Cambridge Arts). As a result, nine artists recently received $5,000 from Cambridge Arts to create collaborative projects aimed to advance racial justice through media ranging from dance performances to poetry and film.
