TRIBUTES ARE BEING paid to Charles Grodin, the offbeat actor and writer who starred as a newlywed cad in The Heartbreak Kid and the father in the Beethoven comedies, who has died at the age of 86.
Grodin’s son Nicholas said his father died yesterday at his home in Wilton, Connecticut, from bone marrow cancer.
Tributes have been paid from across the Hollywood sphere, with comedians and actors like Steve Martin, Ben Stiller, Bradley Whitford and even Miss Piggy singing his praises.

With his first wife, Julia Ferguson, he had a daughter, comedian Marion Grodin.
That marriage, however ended in divorced in 1968.
With his second wife Elissa Durwood, he had a son, actor Nicholas Theodore Grodin.
According to a 2004 interview with Stamford Magazine, Grodin gave up showbusiness to be a stay-at-home dad to his son in 1995..
