Hearing pushed to June for proposed development near SummerGlen

A land owner who wants to build an 841-home family community in Southwest Marion was given another month to tweak plans before the controversial development appears before the Marion County Commission for a final hearing.  The commission agreed Tuesday to shift the final hearing for the proposed development, which would be adjacent to the north of SummerGlen, until June.  The new community, located east of the sprawling Marion Oaks community and west of Interstate 75, would be located on Southwest 20th Avenue Road, a section of roadway that is lined with mostly small cattle ranches and mid-size horse farms. Just south of these rural farms is the 221-acre parcel that is poised to become an 841-home family development. SummerGlen is located 2.2 miles south of County Road 484.

SummerGlen residents fret about 841-home development planned next door

In southwest Marion County, tucked between the sprawling Marion Oaks community to the west and Interstate 75 to the east, Southwest 20th Avenue Road is lined with mostly small cattle ranches and mid-size horse farms. Just south of these rural farms sits a 221-acre parcel, with for-sale signs on billboards facing I-75. That property is poised to become an 841-home family development, adjacent to and north of the gated SummerGlen retirement community. Located on Southwest 20th Avenue Road, 2.2 miles south of County Road 484, SummerGlen is a great place to live because it s so peaceful just outside the development, residents told planning and zoning officials this week.
