A 28-year-old South Elgin man was sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to federal firearms charges late last year.
Mario Prado was charged with illegally possessing a semi-automatic rifle and eight handguns following a court-ordered early morning raid at his home on Feb. 14, 2019.
Prado had previously been convicted of a felony firearm offense in Kane County.
The federal charges came as a result of a joint investigation between federal agents and Illinois State Police. State police officials identified Prado as the supplier of a cocaine dealer from West Dundee. The 2019 raid at Prado s former home on the 500 block of Jenna Drive resulted in the confiscation of several firearms as well as less than 100 grams each of cocaine, crack cocaine and hydrocodone syrup along with nearly $5,500 in cash.
