How useful are travel bubbles?

With COVID-19 still raging around the globe, travel bubbles may exist but how useful are they?
Although travel bubbles are already in existence, because of very conservative virus elimination strategies in most countries, these bubbles are not being utilized.
Successive virus waves in Europe have flattened all talk of travel bubbles outside of European Union borders.
Thailand’s Sports and Tourism Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn has highlighted new talks with the Singapore government about travel bubbles. He points out that Singapore has experience of such a bubble with Australia and New Zealand, although it is not working at the moment because of very conservative virus elimination strategies in Australia. Even a single coronavirus case there can result in internal border closures as well as international bubble interruptions.

Thailand’s sports and tourism minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said that the country and Singapore are discussing forming a travel bubble. He added that Thailand is eyeing travel bubbles with ASEAN countries with low COVID cases like Vietnam and Laos.
Phiphat noted that Singapore has experience in establishing green lanes with countries in Asia and Oceania and Thailand is hoping to join that group. Meanwhile, sharing a land border with Vietnam and Laos makes it easier to form travel bubbles. The minister aims to begin travel bubbles in October.
Meanwhile, Mario Hardy, chief executive of the Pacific Asia Travel Association, thinks that Thailand and Vietnam could easily form a travel bubble since the two countries have handled containing the coronavirus well and keeping the rate of infection quite low.
