1990. he also is dead. drew griffin is working the story for us. tell our viewers what you are finding out. reporter: this is the naval operations center the marine reserve center. that building right over my right shoulder. you can see the top of it. this is where it all ended, where the suspect was killed and unfortunately where the four marines were killed. as we go to area video, you can actually see what we believe to be the suspect s car, the mustang in the center of the approach to this building. unfortunately the police and the fbi have been very cautious given out any kind of details, so we can t tell you exactly what chain of event took place here but from barbara starr s reporting, we ve heard this suspect was not ability to get on to any kind of federal property. that would make us assume that whatever shootout there was happened very close to that car, since it was out in the parking lot area.
d.c. who has just been briefed. reporter: well, stuart, what is interesting is this official said that the shooting started at 10:50 a.m. at the recruiting center on lee highway, and and at that location marine was shot in the leg. the other people inside the recruit center, the defense officials tell us, crawled out the back of the recruiting center to safety. so, we didn t know that detail up until now. they crawled to safety. the ma preen who marine who what shot in the leg at the first location has been treated and released from the hospital. the second incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. at the second spot which was on amnicola highway that was the facility known as the naval operations center and the marine reserve center. that is where we understand that members the four marines were killed. we re told the shooter was killed by law enforcement. we also got some details about
unit. third battalion 14th regiment of the marine reserve. we are learning in addition to the four marines who were killed three people injured. one female saylor who we are told is still in surgery right now. one marine and one police officer. the names of those killed will not be released until primary next of kin notification is complete. the first shots were fired at the armed forces recruiting center on lee highway. defense officials tell us that 25 to 30 shots were fired at 10:50 a.m. this morning at the first location. we re told that those inside the recruiting station crawled on the floor and escaped out the back. the police say that they chased the shooter to a second location seven miles away. a naval operations center attached to a marine reserve center. the car rammed the gate there but there were no armed guards at the facility. the four marines were outside unarmed we re told. the senior defense official that we spoke to said the gunman did not make it on to federal prop
