We’ve got a tsunami warning at the moment,” the police officer said. “I need everyone to move off the boardwalk off the beach or off the street. Move inland or up if you can. “I need it done as soon as possible.” The same two police officers were also seen telling surfer on the beach to get out of the water.

For the benefit of those less familiar with the East, the culturally rich neighbourhood of Katong was an area once filled with coconut plantations and dominated by seaside bungalows and pre-war shophouses for wealthy Peranakans and Eurasians.
