President Rodrigo Duterte asked China to get its donated Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines back after apologizing to the public for receiving its first dose.
There are around 1,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines. It was injected into Duterte on Monday even without Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registration. Whether they have a special permit here, it seems unfair to the public that only received Sinovac or AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
“[W]ell, we are sorry that we committed the things that you are criticizing us for. We accept responsibility. At ako mismo nagpaturok, well, it’s the decision of my doctor,” Duterte said on Wednesday night.

According to Senator Bong Go, Duterte’s former aid, Duterte got vaccinated against the virus to encourage the Filipinos to get inoculated.
Duterte’s vaccination was streamed live on Facebook. “I feel good and I have been expecting this shot, vaccination a long time ago,” the President said before he received the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.
In February, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the compassionate use of Sinopharm, a COVID-19 vaccine from China, for President Rodrigo Duterte’s Presidential Security Group (PSG) members.
According to, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the compassionate use will cover 10,000 doses.

AFP chief orders probe into vaccination of Duterte s security personnel

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 31) - Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Gen. Gilbert Gapay has ordered an investigation on the vaccination of some Presidential Security Group members with an unregistered vaccine.
In a statement on Thursday, AFP spokesperson Marine Major General Edgard Arevalo said Gapay wanted a thorough investigation on the factual circumstances surrounding this incident.
The AFP on Monday confirmed President Rodrigo Duterte s close-in security personnel were the first ones among the military to be vaccinated against the coronavirus in a bid to protect the chief executive from infection.

The Bureau of Customs (BOC) revealed Tuesday that the imported COVID-19 vaccines given to the Presidential Security Group (PSG) did not have any formal communication to their agency. It added those involved could be facing civil and administrative cases if the vaccines were proved to be smuggled.
BOC assistant commissioner and spokesperson Philip Vincent Maronilla said all COVID-19 vaccines entering the country should secure required permits from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). FDA confirmed it had not approved the use of any vaccine against COVID-19 in the Philippines.
“‘Pag ganyan pong mga klaseng produkto, kailangan po namin ng license to operate coming from the FDA or any provisional authority coming from the FDA,” he said in an interview on GMA Super Radyo DZBB.
