Alberta’s highest court has granted the provincial government’s appeal of a decision that temporarily halted the loss of government benefits for hundreds of young adults who were in state care as children.
The Court of Appeal overturned a previous ruling by the Court of Queen’s Bench in March 2020. The lower court had granted a temporary injunction, halting the UCP’s changes to the Support and Financial Assistance Agreements (SFAA) program until the constitutionality of those amendments could be determined.
