Adam Jennings, the principal of Tomales High School for the past eight years, will step into the role of superintendent of Shoreline Unified School District this summer.
The district’s board selected Mr. Jennings through a competitive process to replace Bob Raines, who is retiring after five years at the post and more than four decades in education.
“Adam has really built a culture that is centered around equity and accountability at the high school, and his efforts to include all students and all families shows,” Mr. Raines said. “He works well with staff: He listens, he incorporates feedback in ways that are exceptional, and he is a leader, stepping in to support and coach our new principals.”

The youngest students of the Shoreline Unified School District are back in classrooms for the first time in 10 months, and that’s just one of many moving parts at West Marin’s largest school district this month. Employees are getting vaccinated, Covid-19 testing efficacy has been thrown into doubt and administrators are still hashing out plans for every scenario: What happens if a teacher falls ill? How will quarantined students receive instruction? When would a class revert to distance learning?
“Everyone is trying to come up with solutions to problems they’ve never encountered,” superintendent Bob Raines said. “It’s the nature of the strangeness of this time.”
The Point Reyes Station Village Association wants to restore the visibility of the night sky.
A new lighting review committee met earlier this month for a night walk and identified several buildings with lights that do not follow the town’s community plan. Now, they are reaching out to the building owners, requesting that they install more discreet lighting.
Wells Fargo is the most egregious offender, with 12 bulbs shining into its parking lot. West Marin School, the fire station, the gas station, the Livery Stable and Side Street Kitchen were also identified as having problematic lighting.
Preserving the ability to stargaze is a tenet of the Point Reyes Station community plan, which is used by county planners to evaluate permits. The plan, established in 1976 to accompany the Marin Countywide Plan, is legally enforceable. After the better part of two decades at the helm of the Point Reyes Library, Jennifer Livingston retired last week. Admired for her energy, dedication and can-do spirit, Ms. Livingston has been the glue between the library and community members of all ages throughout her tenure. “She’s a bridge builder, she’s an ally, she’s the kind of person you always want on your team because she will give it 1,000 percent,” said Madeline Hope, who has collaborated with Ms. Livingston to offer local youth programming over the years.
