MicroStrategy, a software company turned bitcoin evangelist, is doubling down on its crypto gambit by ploughing US$900m it raised from the sale of a new CB issue last week into new bitcoin purchases. While there is supposedly growing acceptance on Wall Street of bitcoin, Jefferies was on its own as sole bookrunner on the one-day marketed, six-year CB offering. At least one other bank was invited as a bookrunner but could not get final sign-off from its committee, according to bankers. Jefferies saw no pushback whatsoever, allowing it to upsize to US$900m from the US$600m target marketed and price the deal at a zero-percent coupon and 50% conversion premium, the aggressive ends of 0%–0.5% and 45%–50% price talk. This comes just two months after MicroStrategy landed US$650m from the sale of a five-year CB issue, also led sole by Jefferies, that was priced at a more generous 0.75% coupon and 37.5% premium at the time.
