Hydrant Flushing Alert - Marietta The City of Marietta Fire Department will begin flushing hydrants in the outlined area on Wednesday, May 12th. Flushing of the City s fire hydrants is necessary to purge our water mains of accumulated mineral deposits that have built up over a period of time. It also provides valuable information such as flow rates to fight fires and maintenance problems that we might not be aware of. It will take a considerable amount of time to flush all the hydrants in our system. After the above section outlined is completed, we will move on to the next part of the system and notify our customers in advance in this same manner. The public is advised to be attentive while driving in the area being flushed for water on the roadway.

From staff reports The investigation continues into the deaths of two people struck by a Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department truck Thursday evening. Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Chris Chesar said William A. Reed, 72, and Karolyn B. Reed, 72, were walking on the road from the scene of a trailer fire at 1177 County Road 9, Marietta, when the fire pumper/tanker backed into them. Reno Volunteer Fire Chief Dan Ritchey said there would be no comment about the fire or fatalities. Troopers were assisted on scene by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Engineer’s Office, Washington County EMS, Washington County Coroner, Marietta Fire Department, Reno Volunteer Fire Department, Devola Volunteer Fire Department, Fearing Volunteer Fire Department, and Lowell Adams Volunteer Fire Department.

The accident happened on County Nine Road where a truck from the Williamstown Volunteer Fire Department was at a structure fire at 1177 County Nine Road, the patrol said in a release late Thursday night. William A. Reed, 72, and Karolyn B. Reed, 72, were struck by Williamstown Pumper/Tanker 8 as it was backing at the scene, the patrol said. Both succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased by the Washington County Coroner, the patrol said.
