Arizona GOP members want audit of Kelli Ward s reelection as party chair

Arizona GOP members want audit of Kelli Ward s reelection as party chair by Cole Lauterbach, The Center Square  | January 29, 2021 01:00 PM Print this article Members of Arizona’s GOP are asking newly reelected chairwoman Dr. Kelli Ward for a recount of their Jan. 23 elections. Dr. Ward’s opponent, Tucson businessman Sergio Arellano, has formally requested a recount of votes from the annual GOP State Meeting held in Mesa on Saturday. Questions arose when one of the party’s at-large committee seats from the 8th Congressional District, originally awarded to former Maricopa County Superintendent Sandra Dowling, went to her opponent. Arellano doesn’t think that Ward’s win – she bested him by 42 votes in a runoff – would be overturned in a recount. Rather, he wants the party to set a good example of transparency.

Arizona Republican Party Chairwoman Kelli Ward has responded to her opponent’s call for an audit of last week’s election  the one in which she narrowly won another two years leading the party faithful. These are the final, final results of that election, she said, in a video released Thursday evening. Translation: Pound sand, people. Audits for thee but certainly not for me. Ward’s defeat of Tucson businessman Sergio Arellano at the party’s Jan. 23 meeting came into question earlier this week when party officials learned that the results of another race state committee member from the 8th Congressional District were botched.
