This week saw police and former police officers among the 15 accused in the R1.9-million SAPS PPE corruption case begging the court to free them on bail. They are charged with having unlawfully benefited from the supply of latex gloves to the South African Police Service.
The retired head of police supply chain management broke down in tears as he pleaded with the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court, to grant him bail.
The State is opposing the bail application of 12 of 15 people accused of defrauding the police of more than R1.9 million through personal protective equipment tenders, on the basis that they have pending cases.
