Questions raised over law’s language, possible recount

HAGÃ TÃA, Guam (Marianas Variety Guam, Dec. 20, 2012) – With a deadline looming less than a month away, the Guam Election Commission (GEC) is struggling to define precisely what must be done to meet the mandates of the newly enacted election reform law.
According to the law, GEC has 30 days from the passage of the bill to audit the ballot stock from the 2010 election. GEC also has 45 days to audit provisional and absentee ballots and to provide the impact these ballots had on the election.

Guam Attorney General’s Office Calls For Increased Budget ‘Surge’ in legal services prompts push for $17.8 million budget

HAGÃ TÃA, Guam (Marianas Variety Guam, June 27, 2012) – With new rules and regulations to enforce, more public projects to implement and more cases to litigate, the government of Guam needs increased legal assistance, according to the Attorney General’s Office (AGO), which is seeking a bigger budget to augment its staff.
In its proposed budget for 2013, the AGO is requesting $17.8 million, representing a 37 percent increase from the 2012 spending level pegged at $11.2 million.
