Rarely can the disciplined artists of the Milwaukee Ballet be accused of clowning around. But make an exception for Mariana Oliveira s Pagliacci, which MB has revived for Re.Gen, which opened Thursday for live and video-on-demand audiences.
In a normal season, Milwaukee Ballet would have staged its biannual Genesis competition this season, inviting three choreographers from varying continents to spend a couple of weeks here, creating new dances specifically for MB performers.
With COVID-19 disrupting that pattern, artistic director Michael Pink has revived three past successes of the Genesis competition. Re.Gen will be performed through May 2 for limited-capacity audiences at the Baumgartner Center for Dance, 128 N. Jackson St. The hourlong program can also be viewed online.
