The Mississippi State Department of Health reported 161 new cases of COVID-19 and two coronavirus-related deaths Thursday. Since the virus hit the state in March 2020, a total of 311,654 cases and 7,195 coronavirus-related deaths have been reported.  According to a New York Times database Thursday, at least 950 new coronavirus deaths and 54,520 new cases were reported in the U.S. on Wednesday. Over the past week, there has been an average of 52,605 cases per day, a decrease of 26% from the average two weeks earlier.
