About a quarter of homeowners in North and Northwest suburban Cook County saw their property taxes decrease in 2022, while only 7.8% of commercial properties there saw their bills go in the same direction this year.
On the Lower West Side, property owners saw their median tax bill more than double, from $2,275 to $7,239, according to the analysis. In Avondale, another heavily Hispanic neighborhood, the median tax bill went up 27%.
