Artist Maria Kelebeev is transforming a historic art studio to include easels, art supplies and work-in-progress pieces to reflect a 19th-century studio.
BARRIE, ONT. A local artist is hoping to help those affected by the Barrie tornado. Innisfil artist Maria Kelebeev will be auctioning her artwork at the Innisfil Community Church on Sunday at 1 p.m. This neighbourhood has given me so much since October, says Kelebeev. I definitely want the art to give back. Kelebeev hopes these fundraisers will become a regular occurrence. I will be giving back as long as I possibly can so people know that I m willing to do this, she says. Each piece of art will begin at $50 and all the proceeds will go towards Barrie Families Unite.
BARRIE, ONT. On a crisp but sunny day, Innisfil families found ways to celebrate moms on the second Mother s Day under COVID-19 restrictions. Alex Wright found a patch of grass at Innisfil Beach Park. She laid out a blanket, a charcuterie board and some flowers to surprise the most important person in her life. I ve been through a lot of surgeries in my life, and every time I wake up from my surgery. She s always the one that s there. Carol Wright was only expecting to go for a short walk with her daughter in only their third meeting over the last 13 months. Carol lost her partner early in the pandemic. Grief and fear have kept her at home.
BARRIE, ONT. An Innisfil artist is encouraging others to explore their creative side and find peace during this difficult time. Maria Kelebeev is hosting her first online exhibit and auction on Mother s Day this Sun. May 9. The event will feature her works and those of local mothers. Kelebeev says after losing her job during the pandemic, she resorted to her passion full-time and invited others to join her. You re not buying something that will be forgotten, you re exchanging feelings, thoughts, and expressions, and the money makes it valuable, she says. The Mother s Day Exhibit and Auction runs from noon to 2 pm on Sunday. Participants can interact with the artist and bid on the work on the Hannatess ArtHaus Facebook page.
