Tony Keith Jr. of Washington, DC won the Tom Howard Prize of $3,000 for a poem in any style or genre, for Black Man on Fire . Kayleb Rae Candrilli of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania won the Margaret Reid Prize of $3,000 for a poem that rhymes or has a traditional style, for Ghazals Connected As Though Cargo Freights . The winners also received two-year gift certificates from the contest co-sponsor, Duotrope. 5,785 entries were received from around the world.

(FOX 2) - Sterling Heights Police Department launched its free citizens police academy. The academy gives residents a first-hand look at what it takes to be a police officer in their community - including training with firearms.  Civilians get 30 hours of instruction from Sterling Heights officers, including shoot-don’t-shoot simulations, tazer training and a day with a police dog.  Sterling Heights PD offering free citizens’ police academy The Sterling Heights Police Department is building bridges with their community by offering a free police academy to residents.
