In Term Two or 2022, only 40 percent of students regularly went to school and kura. The definition of regular attendance is being at school more than 90 percent of time.
There was a massive spike in Covid cases and winter illnesses during the term and justified medical absences made up 8.6 percent of missing students.
But almost 6 percent of time off school was unjustified. An Education Review Office report report says 40 percent of parents it surveyed were comfortable with their child missing a week or more of classes each term.

POLICE are urgently searching for a woman who has not been seen since she left her home yesterday. Maria Foy was last seen leaving her home address in Crawley around 5pm on Wednesday, April 28, and did not returned home as expected. The 53-year-old is around 5ft 8 tall, with long, dark and wavy hair.
Missing Maria Foy It is not known what clothing she is wearing, but she is believed to be travelling on foot. A spokesman from Sussex Police said: Anyone who sees her or who has any information as to her whereabouts is asked to call 999 quoting serial 1512 of 28/04.
