Hesperia woman creates support group, fights for home after losing husband to COVID-19

From her Hesperia home, Maria “Lulu” Davalos struggled to explain how her husband, Jose, died nearly three weeks after contracting COVID-19 from a family member.
“Some people say COVID-19 is a hoax or it’s just like the flu,” Davalos said. “All I know is that after 38 years of marriage, I lost my husband to this virus that has taken so many lives.”
Jose Davalos was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Nov. 19 and admitted three days later to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley, said his wife, who works as a lead cook for the Victor Elementary School District.
