By Sandra G. Leon
A study released this week found that childhood obesity rates in Hispanic children are more than twice as high as white students in San Diego County schools, with 23.1 percent of Hispanic students being overweight or obese, compared to only 8.9 percent of white students.
The report, released by the San Diego County Obesity Initiative (COI), reviewed physical fitness test results of over 99,000 students among the 42 school districts in our county. The tests measure body composition of fifth, seventh, and ninth grade students consistent with the National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

LIMA (Reuters) -A three-week-long roadblock protest by locals has prevented Las Bambas mine in Peru, run by Australia-based MMG Ltd, from exporting 189,000 tonnes of copper concentrate, a mining association leader said on Tuesday.
Pablo de la Flor, executive director of the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy, said the blockade of a road in the Cusco region, 200 kilometers (125 miles) from the mine, had lasted 24 days and prevented export of copper concentrate worth $530 million. He warned that the company could start to halt production altogether in the coming days.

In May 2016, Pope Francis responded to a question posed at the triennial assembly of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG): If women religious are already performing the many ministries of deacons, why not form a commission to study the restoration of women to the diaconate?
The pope responded immediately, naming 12 scholars the following August to the Commission for the Study of the Diaconate of Women who met in Rome four times and returned a report by June 2018. The pope gave a portion of the report to the UISG leadership at their May 2019 assembly. It has not been published.
