The until recently rare and largely contained to Africa monkeypox virus spreading quickly in Europe, the Americas and Australia is making health experts anxious. Estonian experts believe the outbreak will not develop into a pandemic.
The Government Office and the Ministry of Social Affairs are working on a plan so that the coronavirus would not take Estonia by surprise again this fall.
The government's scientific advisory council does not support the lifting of coronavirus restrictions, citing the rising infection rate, and believes coronavirus certificates will not be abolished on February 21.
Head of the government's scientific council Toivo Maimets says that the Health Board (Terviseamet) and the scientific council are jointly presenting the government's evaluation, on the basis of which, restrictions could be removed.
